As in Alex Haley’s words–there is always so much more to discover–and all so many stories of the ordinary and extraordinary. The favorites were always the family elders–who were appreciative for a listener, however young! The “go-to” ancestral conversation was always on the Trainer side of the family–in the person of my Irish immigrant great-great-grandfather Patrick Trainer, who had fought in the American Civil War. For much of my life, this knowledge was mostly a collection of stories that were told, people that I met, and many childhood experiences. I have always had a deep interest in family history.
